Is MND and ALS the same thing?

Some of the most common MNDs include: Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), also called classical motor neuron disease, affects both the upper and lower motor neurons. It causes rapid loss of muscle control and eventual paralysis. Many doctors use the term motor neuron disease and ALS interchangeably.

What percentage of MND is ALS?

There are virtually no other neurological conditions in which both these processes occur simultaneously. Nearly 90 percent of patients with MND have the mixed ALS form of the disease, so that the terms MND and ALS are commonly used to mean the same thing.
