Effective September 20th, the ASPCA Adoption Center will encourage a $150 suggested adoption fee when adopting an animal. This suggested adoption fee allows the ASPCA to continue our lifesaving work and help even more animals in need. We are grateful for any and all amounts given at the time of adoption.

What does the SPCA do with dogs?

The Animal Protection Act 71 of 1962 protects all animals from deliberate cases of abuse by humans. The SPCA is also responsible for finding new homes for dogs and cats when their owner’s are no longer able to care for them. Maybe they have to move to a place where pets are not allowed or maybe to another country.

Are rescue cats free?

The adoption fee varies for different branches and centres. Some may have to pay more for veterinary treatment than others, and some have higher costs in looking after cats. The adoption fee goes towards paying some of the cost of your cat’s health check, neutering and vaccinations.

Does SPCA euthanize?

The ASPCA does not support euthanasia as the predominant means of managing the pet overpopulation problem. Every effort should be made to place appropriate animals in safe, responsible homes.

We are a registered, non-profit, animal welfare charity and our mission is to protect and enhance the quality of life for domestic, farm and wild animals in British Columbia.

ASPCA is restricted to protecting the rights of animals in the United States while SPCA is an international organization which has branches all over the world. ASPCA works under one banner and has same aims and objectives while SPCA has different goals and targets in each country and are not connected to each other in any way.
