What is SpeediCath made from?
SpeediCath catheters have a hydrophilic polymer coating consisting of polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) that is bound to the surface of the catheter. The coating absorbs and binds water, resulting in a slippery surface that ensures complete lubrication as the catheter is passed through the urethra into the bladder.
Do female catheters hurt?
Inserting either type of catheter can be uncomfortable, so anaesthetic gel may be used on the area to reduce any pain. - Hold the labia apart with one hand. Slowly put the catheter into the meatus with your other hand.
- Gently push the catheter about 3 inches into the urethra until urine begins to come out. Once urine starts to flow, push the catheter up 1 inch more and hold it in place until the urine stops.
