Young children’s brains are not able to create understanding from worksheets. Because of this, worksheets are not developmentally appropriate in preschool. Since worksheets can’t teach children at such a young age, that means the only thing they can do is present, or test, a concept that children already know.

Why tracing is not developmentally appropriate?

After years of observing children as they learn to write, I suggest that asking children to trace alphabet letters actually does more harm than good. These actions, if repeated enough times, will result in habits that later interfere with both legibility, muscle memory, and writing fluency.
