What is the acapella valve and how does it work?

The Acapella Valve is a unique handheld device that keeps your lungs clear of mucus so you can breathe easy. It combines the benefits of positive expiratory pressure or PEP therapy with airway vibrations. How’s it work? Inside the valve is a small steel ball in a cone shaped valve.

How do you set the dial on an acapella?

How to Use the Acapella Assure proper setting of the dial on the end of the Acapella. This is the end opposite the mouthpiece. Your health care provider will set the dial when you get your Acapella. Rotate the end toward the + to increase resistance. Rotate the end toward – to decrease resistance.

Place the Acapella mouthpiece in your mouth. Seal your lips tightly around the mouthpiece. Exhale as much as possible (but not to forcefully) through the mouthpiece. Keep your cheeks as firm as possible when you exhale. Try not to inhale through the device. Repeat this maneuver for 10 breaths. Try to resist coughing during this phase.

How long does it take to sterilize the acapella valve?

This should take between 10 and 20 minutes. The Acapella Valve is designed to be easily cleaned and sterilized. Plus, it can be used with your mask or mouthpiece nebulizer. Good luck!

What do the different colors on the acapella mean?

Color-coded units (green for high-flow and blue for low-flow) help customize treatment based on clinical needs. You can change the Acapella’s frequency and flow resistance simply by turning an adjustment dial. I’ve used a different acapella which was unreliable.
